How Does Digital ID Work?

uCheck has teamed up with Yoti and Post Office EasyID to let you prove your identity for your DBS check, without having to take your ID documents physically to your employer. The process for using this is simple and secure and will make your DBS application as quick as possible. In order to use Digital ID, you will need to go through these simple steps:

Download App

Download the App

You can download either the YOTI or Post Office Easy ID apps. They work in exactly the same way as each other as Yoti and Post Office have a technical partnership for their apps. Both of these apps are completely free and can be used for reasons other than your DBS check. You can either enter your ID information when you first download the app, or you can enter it after scanning the QR code on your application, it’s entirely up to you.

Yoti:  Android    iOS(iPhone)

Post Office EasyID:  Android    iOS(iPhone)

If you haven’t downloaded the Yoti or EasyID app when you scan the QR code on your application, you will be prompted to download an app before you can complete your Digital ID check.

Scan the QR Code

At the end of the forms you will be presented with the Digital ID screen with a QR code. Scanning the QR code lets the app know exactly what we need for you to validate your Digital ID. The app will ask you to confirm who has requested the data, so you know that the request is legitimate. If you haven’t downloaded the Yoti or EasyID app when you scan the QR code on your application, you will be prompted to download an app before you can complete your Digital ID check.

Scan QR Code
Enter Data

Enter Your Data

Now that the app knows what is required for your Digital ID verification, it will guide you through each of the steps you need to take to get verified. This will include scanning ID documents (normally a Passport and Driving Licence), taking a selfie to prove you are a real person, and validating your address through a credit reference agency check or from your Driving Licence.

If you are having trouble scanning the chip on your Passport, we recommend taking the case off your phone and trying again. If you use up all your attempts and haven’t been able to complete your Digital ID, the app will pass back to us that you have failed to complete your Digital ID and your employer will be in touch for an alternative way to validate your identity. This won’t prevent your DBS application from happening.

Share Your Digital ID

Once the app has validated all of the information needed, it will confirm all the data it will be securely sharing with us, and ask you to confirm you are happy to share it. This information is only used to validate your identity and isn’t stored for any other purpose. When you share the Digital ID, your employer will be alerted and will check the information on your Digital ID matches what you entered in your application. If the information doesn’t match, they will be in touch with you for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions

The app uses your phone number and requires you to create a pin to keep your account secure and prove you are in control of your phone. The number isn’t shared with anyone else.

This can sometimes happen if you are not on the latest version of the app. Please check the app store to see if there are any updates that need to be installed.

If the issue continues, please contact Yoti Support.

Yoti and Post Office EasyID are working in partnership together, which means that their apps are identical to each other. Therefore it’s entirely up to you which one you would rather use.

If you don’t want to complete your digital ID or are unable to do so, simply go back to the Digital ID Verification page on your uCheck application and select Opt-Out of Digital ID. This will inform your employer who will be in touch with an alternative way to validate your identity.
